Lakeside City

Lakeside City is located off State Highway 79 on the southern shores of Lake Wichita along the northern boundary of Archer County and southern boundary of Wichita County. The community began in the early 1960s, and on September 7, 1963, residents voted to incorporate. The town established a mayor/council form of government and gradually added various city services during the next fifteen years. In 1972 Lakeside City organized a water department, and in 1976 citizens erected a city building. Garbage collection began in 1977, and a volunteer fire department was established. This operation expanded to include ambulance service in 1981. By 1980 Lakeside City had a population of 515, and the city included several stores, a day school, and the First Baptist Church. In 1990 Lakeside City had 865 residents, and that figure increased to 984 in 2000.
